The use of asphalt as a natural waterproofing material has developed over the years to provide solutions to the containment or exclusion of water. Awazel products are designed to cope with the problems associated with water in easily applied, economical ways.
Awazel is the original Saudi company to produce bituminous based products locally. Today, it produces more than one hundred and fifty different types for use in road, bridges, roofing, waterproofing, damp- proofing and tanking.
The millions who drive along the expressways would be unaware of the role Awazel played in all of the construction activities. Bridges, flyovers and underpasses carry the highways through city centers where more new building construction is still taking place. It is highly likely that specialist waterproofing products from Awazel would have been used to provide protection somewhere within the structures.
THE SILENT CONTRIBUTION
Awazel membranes waterproof the bridges and flyovers. Structures below ground are protected against aggressive salts by Awazel emulsions or compounds. Basements, swimming pools, water tanks and other under- ground structures are tanked using Awazel materials. A rising water table in the major cities has made tanking of underground structures essential. The repair of a leaking basement can easily cost more than the original construction.
Roofing is another area of construction in which Awazel is providing guaranteed solutions, even when the waterproofing membranes are to be exposed to the harsh Saudi climate. A new visitor may be excused for believing that waterproofing would be a low priority in a country where rain is infrequent. Rather, the opposite is true. Rainfall may indeed be infrequent but can also be of torrential proportions. The Saudi home or building owner has been quick to appreciate the damage that can be caused to expensive furnishings and decoration by the lack of attention to waterproofing precautions.
